Anyone can hang wallpaper! And here's how to do it
You don’t need a pasting table to hang this wallpaper. Instead, you apply the paste directly to the wall and then hang the wallpaper on top of it. It’s quick and easy. This way, anyone can hang wallpaper.
Step 1 – Congratulations, you're about to get started
You're about to start wallpapering. A good start is half the battle, so take a moment to unpack everything carefully and get everything ready. Remove the wallpaper from the tube(s) and take a close look at the markings on the roll.
Each tube contains two panels that are attached to each other. There is a dotted line running down the middle: you can easily cut the panels apart along this line. Each panel is labeled at the top and bottom to indicate whether it is panel 1/2 or 2/2—so you know exactly which panels belong together and in what order to glue them.
For wallpaper with a continuous pattern, the top of each strip is marked with an A, B, or C. By following this order, the pattern will line up perfectly.
Before you start, think about where to begin. This will determine how the pattern falls across the wall. It’s best to start in a corner or near a window and work outward from there.
Step 2 – No need for a pasting table
What makes this type of wallpaper so convenient is that you don’t need a pasting table. Instead of applying paste to the wallpaper, you spread the paste directly onto the wall. This is quick and clean, and it saves space and hassle. Once the wall is pasted, you can apply the wallpaper strip and gently smooth it into place. Because you’re working from the wall, you have more control over the pattern’s position, and it’s easier to make adjustments if it’s not quite hanging right.
Step 3 – Tips for a clean finish
Make sure the wall is clean, dry, and smooth. Any unevenness will often show through the wallpaper, so proper surface preparation is essential. Always start with a vertical line—for example, using a level or a plumb line—so that the first strip hangs perfectly straight. Once that’s in place, the following strips will naturally align nicely.
When hanging the wallpaper, it’s important to press it down firmly. Use a soft roller or a spatula to smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles. Wipe away any excess adhesive immediately with a damp cloth or sponge. Trim excess edges along the ceiling or baseboard with a sharp utility knife, preferably using a new blade, to ensure a clean cut.
